The History of NISARD Foundation
The Provincial Governments of Oriental Negros and Negros Occidental signed a Memorandum of Agreement in August 2005 to unify the island by achieving sustainable agriculture & rural development. The agreement aims to achieve sustainable resource management and food security for smallholder communities based on diversified farm produce.
The agreement mandated the establishment of Provincial Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Board which shall formulate policies on food security, bio-security, rural development and bio-diversity conservation. It also mandated the formation of Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation to implement the programs based on policies formulated by the SARD Board including funding mechanisms and farm conversion packages.
